So what exactly do I get in the Cafédirect Handpicked delivery box each month?

Each month you will get an envelope containing a 250g bag (20-25 cups) of gourmet coffee chosen by our experts that month from around the world, a gorgeous leaflet explaining the provenance of the coffee and our tasting notes.

Should I order Whole Beans or Ground?

If you have your own bean grinder then Whole Beans is a perfect choice, especially if you like to make your own espresso. If you're not sure, Ground is always the safer option to start with and you can change between the two at any time via your account page.

Should I order the espresso or filter plan?

If you mainly brew your coffee with an espresso machine or stovetop, or add lots of milk, then the espresso plan is for you. If you generally brew in a cafetiere, aeropress,or V60 then you’d be better off with the filter plan. You can easily switch between the two at any time on your account page.

What’s the difference between the espresso and filter coffees?

Our Filter coffees are roasted light – medium to bring out all the nuances of the flavour of the coffees. These coffees are best brewed in cafetiere, aeropresses or pour overs like Hario’s V60. They are best drunk black or with a dash of milk to taste. If you order your coffee ground it will be a medium grind to suit all filter methods.

Our Espresso coffees are created to be more suited to espresso methods of brewing. They are roasted slightly darker than our filter coffees to ensure they deliver the intensity of flavour needed to give you a true espresso experience, and to cut through the milk if you are making lattes, cappuccinos or flat whites. If you order this coffee ground it will ground fine to suit espresso brewing methods.

How is this different to buying a bag at the supermarket?

In quite a few ways, most notably the quality of the coffee and where it's sourced from. Cafédirect Handpicked selects coffee which is equivalent to a Gran Reserva in Spanish wine - only the very best beans and farms makes it into a Handpicked box. We freshly roast the beans and deliver them within 7 days of roasting which is never possible from a supermarket; in fact most of their coffees take weeks to even arrive on the shelves and it's a common fact that fresh pre-ground coffee is best drunk within 4 weeks of roasting.

Are all your coffees Fairtrade?

As part of Cafédirect, Handpicked upholds the same values and principles in terms of its commitment to farmers and communities. We do try to source all coffees Fairtrade, though at the speciality level and in all regions across the world, this is not always possible. If a coffee is not Fairtrade certified it will still be sourced according to Fairtrade principles.
In addition to this we return at least 1/3rd of our profits back to growers through the Producers Direct to invest in a more sustainable and tastier future.

How should I store my Handpicked coffee at home?

Fresh coffee should be kept in a cool dry place. It needs protecting against light, heat, air and moisture to keep it at its best. An air-tight ceramic jar on a cool shelf works very well.

When do the Handpicked boxes arrive?

Once you have placed your order, coffee is dispatched the following working day and we typically say to allow 3-5 working days for it to arrive.

Will it fit through my letterbox?

Our coffees are delivered in an envelope that is a Royal Mail "small packet" size at 30mm height and fits through 95% of all letterboxes.

When do I get billed?

Payment is taken immediately upon purchase and then all future payments are taken on the same day each month (eg if you purchase your subscription on the 1st of the month then you are charged every 1st).

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

It’s possible to cancel your subscription at any time via your account page and are instant. If you cancel a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription before it comes to an end then please get in touch with handpicked@cafedirect.co.uk about a refund for the remaining months.

Is it possible to refer my friends and earn points or credits?

Absolutely. Once you're a paying subscriber, you will get a unique referral code and link which you can share with your friends. When they sign up, they'll get their first month for £1 and you'll get £4 off your next purchase.

Do you post outside the UK?

Unfortunately we do not currently deliver outside of the UK.

Handpicked Gourmet Coffee Gift Experience

A Handpicked gift subscription is a perfect unusual luxury treat for someone special, whether it's a birthday or a big event like Christmas. As such, we take extra special care to ensure they get an amazing experience from us each and every time.

So what exactly will they get in their Handpicked box each month?

Each month you will get a slim line box containing a 250g bag (20-25 cups) of gourmet coffee from around the world, chosen by our experts, and a gorgeous leaflet explaining the provenance of the coffee with our tasting notes.

When will the recipient get their gift and how do they redeem it?

At the end of your purchase you will receive a unique gift code that you can pass on to the recipient. They can then use this code to redeem their Handpicked coffee at any time, within the expiry date. Once they have set up the subscription their first coffee will be dispatched the following working day.

You won't send them any billing information, emails, or order confirmations will you?

No, you will get all the confirmations, as well as the gift code that you can pass on to your recipient.

Can I send gifts to international addresses?

Unfortunately we do not currently deliver outside of the UK.

Do you automatically renew the gift subscription at the end of the term?

No, we don’t. Recipients are sent an email once their final coffee is dispatched letting them that they can renew it if they want, if they don’t then the account is closed.

How long do they have to claim their gift?

6 months, at the end of which the code will expire and be non-refundable.

I’m having problems redeeming my gift code. Any ideas?

9 times out of 10 this is resolved by ensuring you are using capital letters, and that ‘I’s, ‘L’s, ‘1’s and ‘0’s ‘O’s aren’t mixed up. If this still doesn’t work contact us at handpicked@cafedirect.co.uk and we’ll get it sorted for you.
